Formed as The Rats in 1977 in Deptford, London having changed moniker to THE RED LIGHTS during the summer. Their vinyl debut was song entitled "Never Wanna Leave" appeared on the compilation "Farewell To The Roxy".
In 1978 Ian Rusell had replaced andrew McLachlan and Steve Tate had taken the place of Dave McMullan. Tate qui after a few weeks and Steve Townsend joined. Having signed a deal with Free Range records, the RED LIGHTS released their only 7" "Never Wanna Leave" in August 1978 pressed in an edition of 500.
The band continued to perform throughout 1978 and 1980 an splitting in mid 1981.
